3 Highly Effective Principles for Influential Leaders

Hey,

Leading a team can be a thrilling yet challenging experience. Success often hinges on a combination of skills & personal characteristics but trust & the subsequent collaboration it influences can be a defining factor.

3 principles I have found highly effective in accelerating trust & subsequent influence are:

1) Be a Thermostat not a Thermometer

Read the room & then influence the room. Be the positive energy, the reason to develop, the proactive inspiration to others, frame solutions rather than being dragged into the abyss of ‘problem centred’ or ‘low energy’ mindsets.

Your ability to influence the ‘temperature’ rather than be affected by it will be a defining factor in the progress you make.

Taking the initiative to contribute energy, ideas & offer support demonstrates absolute commitment & will encourage others to engage fully.

1) Lead in Actions & Words.

Your ability to transform obstacles into opportunities for growth will be of high influence. Taking the lead, visibly living the behaviours & values of your organisation will challenge & encourage others to align.

Alignment & synergy create momentum & ultimately it’s not what you say you will do, it’s what your actually do that will count.

1) Make the Model Fit the Group, not The Group Fit the Model.

Resilience is particularly vital when forging a team identity or growing the values & structures within an organisation. An ability to bounce back from setbacks, whether it’s a miscommunication, a failed project, or even initial feelings of isolation are a key attribute in operational agility.

The plan is only as good as the plan until the plan changes! The only teams that fail are those that are unable to adapt & evolve.

The acceptance to adapt your model & principles in the face of challenge is essential, it’s won’t always go as planned. So make a new plan.

This adaptability & ‘reframing’ after a set back not only helps you maintain motivation but also inspires those around you to persevere.

What principles are non-negotiable to you in your leadership armoury?
