Great Leadership Is a Journey, Not a Destination

Great leadership isn’t something you simply arrive at. It’s not a badge, a title, or a one-time seminar. The truth is, most leaders are never actually taught how to lead — they’re thrown into it, expected to figure it out on the go, I certainly did!

In some specific leadership scenarios I sank but mostly I swam, not because I particularly knew the how or the what, but because I learned through experience, humility, and continuous growth.

So the more I contemplate & coach leadership skills I view each unique journey as a messy, evolving, deeply personal one. It’s a slow cooker not a microwave! It takes time, there’s no click & ping!

My top 5 tips on developing your leadership & those around you are:

1. Embrace self-awareness

1. Seek feedback

1. Be adaptable

1. Have a willingness to be uncomfortable.

1. Be accountable

Your qualities are built day by day, in how you handle conflict, how you inspire others, and how you hold yourself accountable. There’s no final checkpoint. The best leaders are lifelong learners, always curious, always refining.

So instead of chasing the idea of being “a great leader,” we should focus on becoming better ones — one decision, one conversation, one lesson at a time.
