Servants are leaders

Servant leadership in the elite.

After supporting athlete after athlete, team after team and coach after coach, it is crystal clear what separates the best from the rest.
The ability to serve others!

Asking what can I do for you?, not what can you do for me?

This does not detract from the qualities of being an effective athlete, team-mate or leader, in fact it is the very behaviour that elevates them.

A ‘servant leader’ asks ‘what can I do for you / the team ?’
Not ‘what can you do for me?’
The servant leader relentlessly displays actions that support the needs of those around them.
Examples include the senior pro who tirelessly supports every play without hesitation… or even the superstar that offers to carry the equipment in from the team bus…

Be this athlete/collegue/team-mate/leader.
Give selflessly, without expectation.
Ask ‘what can I do to make others better or effect the teams productivity?’.
You’ll be amazed how much you receive in return both physically & emotionally.

I could name countless TOP athletes who exhibit this attitude & style of leadership, they are are all valued, successful and humble. And GREAT people!

Of course, servant leadership cannot be exclusive but it’s part of the puzzle.
